About

Scouting is all about fun, challenges and adventure.

Scouting offers fun and friendship, challenge and everyday adventure to 400,000 girls and boys across the UK. We have a positive impact on young people, our 100,000 adult volunteers and the communities in which we live.

Offering over 200 different activities from abseiling and archery to drama, street sports and water zorbing, Scouting helps 6-25 year olds grow in confidence, achieve their full potential and become active members of their communities.

This is only possible through the efforts of 100,000 volunteers who also enjoy the fun and friendship of Scouting. Trusted by nearly a million parents each week, the Movement welcomes members from all backgrounds, faiths and cultures. Special emphasis is placed on bringing the Scouting programme to young people who currently do not benefit, particularly those in inner cities, those in rural areas and other disadvantaged groups. The Scout Association is a registered charity in the UK and part of a worldwide movement of 31 million Scouts working for peace and global friendship.

Stourbridge District

Scouting in Stourbridge is nearly as old as Scouting itself and over 100 years after it began it is still welcoming more and more young people every year, and the reasons for this arenu2019t difficult to understand! Itu2019s all about friendship, fun and most importantly, everyday adventure for our youngsters.

There are 10 Scout Groups in Stourbridge District, providing age appropriate activities and challenges to boys and girls aged 6 to 14, as well as 3 Explorer Scout Units for young adults over 14 and then Scout Network Unit for those aged 18 to 25, all run or assisted by teams of dedicated adult leaders who are vetted and trained to the Scout Associationu2019s high standards.

As Bear Grylls, the Chief Scout, says, u2018Two things matter in life: following your dreams and looking after your friends. Thatu2019s what we love about Scouting, itu2019s about doing great things, loving and enjoying the great adventures, and helping others to do the sameu2019.

Whatu2019s this I hear about waiting lists?

Scouting is popular with young people and this means that sometimes we canu2019t take everyone at the time they want to join us u2013 they have to go on a waiting list. We try to fit people in as soon as we can and will be happy to talk over the options with you.The key for us to be able to provide more Scouting for more young people is the number of adult volunteers we can recruit.

Volunteering for Stourbridge Scoutsnn

All the adults involved in scouting are all volunteers and we value them greatly for what they do. Some choose to become a Leader supporting the delivery of weekly meetings for the young people and helping at camps and other Scouting events.

Other people prefer to be members an Executive Committee ensuring that a Scout Group or District has enough money and lets the frontline leaders concentrate on delivering great scouting to our members. A study found that over 90% of our volunteers believe that the skills and experiences they have gained through Scouting have been of relevance to their working or personal lives.
